A woman recovering in hospital after a vicious attack allegedly carried out by her boyfriend hopes her traumatic ordeal will help others who feel trapped in abusive relationships.
Carleigh Hager’s tongue was ripped out and part of her ear was bitten off when she was attacked at the home she shared with now ex-partner Ryan Cameron.
The 25-year-old suffered horrific head wounds and couldn’t see out of her left eye, and now faces a lengthy physical and psychological recovery after being choked and beaten.
Her profile on Facebook – plastered with selfies of the smiling couple – suggested they were happily in love , but the nursing assistant said it was all an illusion.
Carleigh, from the US city of Indianapolis, feared she would die in the attack which occurred after she and Ryan – whom she considered her “Prince Charming” early in their relationship – attended a wedding on Saturday.
Doctors had to stitch most of her tongue back into her mouth and she is unable to eat solid foods for at least three weeks.
